What Is Law?

Law

Law is a set of rules that govern the actions of individuals and groups in society. These laws are made by government officials and must be obeyed by all citizens.

The Rule of Law

The rule of law is an ideal that has been around for millennia and it is a very important concept in legal and political philosophy. This idea has many interpretations and is seen as a key factor in making sure that a government follows the rules.

Types of Law

There are different types of law, and they all focus on a certain area or problem. Criminal law deals with the laws that govern crime and the punishment for crimes, while civil law is concerned with the rules that are in place for a person’s property and other aspects of their life.

Constitutional law

The United States constitution is the main source of all the laws in the country, it outlines the rights of citizens and how their government should work (What Type of Government). The Executive branch is the Cabinet that creates the laws that will be signed or vetoed by the President (What Type of Government).

Common law

A legal system which relies on decisions made by a state legislature and judicial decisions. These systems are more detailed and expansive than civil law systems, which rely less on judicial decisions and more on legislative statutes.

Physicallaw

Law is a statement that describes invariable relationships among phenomena under a specific set of conditions. For example, Boyle’s law is a physical law that states what will happen to the volume of an ideal gas if its pressure and temperature change. These laws are based on observations and experiments that have been done.
