What Is Fashion?

Fashion

Fashion is a broad term that encompasses trends and styles in clothing, makeup and accessories. It is a very powerful medium that influences people worldwide and affects the way they look and feel about themselves. Fashion changes continuously and it is a reflection of our times and social conditions. In addition to clothes, fashion also includes accessories, shoes, bags and hairstyles.

Fashions can differ considerably within a society depending on age, social class, generation, occupation and geography. For instance, young people often follow the latest fashions, while older individuals may stick to classic or traditional styles. A person who follows the latest fashions is sometimes referred to as a “fashionista.” Fashion can be influenced by music, films, celebrities and royalty.

It is widely believed that changes in fashion reflect societal changes and the financial interests of designers and manufacturers. However, some researchers suggest that internal taste mechanisms are at work as well.

Whether a new style is considered fashionable depends on the individual and their interpretation of beauty and elegance. It also depends on whether the style fits one’s personal character and lifestyle. For example, a young woman may find that a certain look suits her very well and she is comfortable wearing it. Similarly, an older person may find that some styles of clothing are inappropriate for them and they might feel self-conscious wearing them. In general, though, most people will usually adjust their appearance according to the current fashions.
