What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is a word used for anything that entertains or amuses. It can be done for pleasure, or for a purpose such as training or education. It is often related to pleasure, as in fun and laughter, but many types of entertainment have a serious purpose. It can also be focused on themes that the human mind was evolved to deeply react to, such as backstabbing, murders and other social issues.

According to Oliver and Barstsch (2010) entertainment can be defined as an activity that is understood objectively, involves communication between text and audience from an external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience and occurs in a passive form. It is sometimes abbreviated to entmt on fliers or in industry news publications where space is limited.
